Play Torbay - Business As Usual
There’s been a lot going on at Play Torbay since September! Despite a few setbacks, we’ve had some amazing achievements and wonderful community moments that we’re excited to share with you.
🎭 Life on the Edge Quest – An Environmental Promenade Performance
📅 Friday 31st October, 1.30pm
📍 Indigos Play & Ecology Centre, Rowan Way, Brixham TQ5 0SB
We are thrilled to present Life on the Edge Quest, the result of a four-day workshop with young people and final-year Drama and Performing Arts students from the University of Gloucestershire. The performance will feature the South Devon Rock Choir and celebrates the work of the South Devon National Landscape’s “Life on the Edge” project, which protects rare and endangered coastal insects.
The performance is free to attend — no booking required! Donations to Play Torbay are always welcome. All are invited to come along and enjoy this special event.
🌱 Volunteers Keeping Our Playgrounds Beautiful
A huge thank you to the amazing Indigos Forest School Home Ed parents who volunteered with our staff this week! Together they tackled the polytunnel, cleared vegetable beds, weeded, and tidied the whole space, ready for next week’s Life on the Edge Quest. The site looks fantastic, and the children had a brilliant afternoon playing together in their favourite place.
🦊 Crafty Fox Club Returns!
We’re excited to announce that Crafty Fox Drop-In Sessions are back!
🎨 Free weekly club for under 12s
📍 Crafty Fox Café, Paignton
🕓 Tuesdays, 4:00–5:30pm
Each week offers something new — crafts, games, music, and more. No need to book — just come along and join the fun!
🌳 FASD “Fun in Nature” Sessions at Indigos
We’ve teamed up with FASD Southwest to host dedicated Fun in Nature sessions for families impacted by FASD.
Starting in November, these weekend sessions will be led by Sam, Chloe, and James, featuring pizza making, marshmallow toasting, and lots of opportunities for outdoor play. While the children explore, parents can relax and connect in a supportive environment.
🎅 Christmas Party – Save the Date!
Our friends at Beverley Holiday Park are once again hosting our Christmas Party on Friday, 12th December 2025! Expect singing, games, delicious food, presents, and of course — a visit from Father Christmas! 🎁
Booking will open soon on our website — places are limited, so keep an eye out!
🧩 Alternative Provision – EOTAS Recognition
We’re proud to share that in June we were approved as one of Torbay Council’s specialist EOTAS providers. This recognition highlights the professionalism and dedication of our team in supporting every young person’s wellbeing and learning.
Our holistic approach means we don’t just work with the child — we collaborate with families and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes.
💛 Club Updates
In September, we announced the temporary closure of our clubs at ASRUS Mayfield and Forest School at Indigos due to funding challenges. These clubs receive little to no external financial support, making them unsustainable for now.
However, we’re working hard to bring them back — with a GoFundMe campaign, funding applications, and discussions with the council already underway. Thank you for your patience and continued support!
🏅 RHS Art Award
Congratulations to Lily, one of our Forest School children, who won the RHS Art Award! We’re so proud of you, Lily! 🌸
